Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, including the highest and lowest producers and consumers. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, simply listing data points rather than synthesising the information effectively. The overview is present but could be more analytical. While the task is addressed, the comparison between countries is limited to simple statements like 'higher than' or 'lower than'. To improve, you should group the data more logically (e.g., comparing the top tier with the lower tier) and focus on identifying trends or significant gaps rather than just transcribing the figures provided in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and basic. Phrases like 'Looking at the details' and 'In comparison' are used, but the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the final sentence where the phrasing 'most common electricity' is confusing and lacks logical connection to the previous data. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely heavily on repeating the words 'production' and 'consumption' throughout the text. There are also some awkward word choices, such as 'Korea rep' (which should be 'the Republic of Korea') and the phrase 'most popular electricity', which is not appropriate in this context. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider range of synonyms and collocations related to data reporting, such as 'generated', 'utilised', 'outperformed', or 'surpassed', and ensure that geographical names are written correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'the China', 'the United States'), incorrect prepositions, and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'In Korea rep had only...'). Some sentences are poorly constructed, such as 'china was most popular electricity production', which lacks a verb or clear meaning. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity of the report. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for articles and prepositions would be beneficial.
