Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by identifying the top ten countries and providing data for production and consumption. However, the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the main trends or significant comparisons. The description of the data is somewhat mechanical, simply listing figures rather than synthesizing the information. For instance, the comparison between countries is limited, and the statement about Germany, Brazil, France, and Canada having 'similar rankings' is vague and lacks supporting data. To improve, you should focus on grouping countries by their production levels and highlighting the most significant differences or similarities rather than listing them individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and limited use of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, such as the shift from China to the United States. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, and the structure within paragraphs feels like a list of facts rather than a cohesive analysis. To improve, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' 'Conversely') to connect ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'massive electricity' instead of 'a massive amount of electricity' and 'not a big differ' instead of 'not a significant difference.' Additionally, there are minor errors in terminology and formatting, such as '44905 billion kWh' which appears to be a typo for 449.5. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that numerical data is transcribed accurately from the source.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the the electricity was produced and consume' (incorrect verb form and repetition) and 'Although the Russia, Japan and India have not a big differ' (incorrect article usage and word choice). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and spacing around numbers. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and proofreading for basic grammatical slips to ensure your writing is more accurate and professional.
