Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all requirements of the task by identifying the main features of the bar chart. You have successfully selected the top ten countries and made relevant comparisons between production and consumption. The overview is clear, and the data is accurately reported. To reach a higher band, ensure that you group the data more analytically rather than listing figures country by country. For instance, highlighting that Germany was the only country to consume more electricity than it produced would have provided a more insightful analysis of the data trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition to', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' to link your ideas. However, the progression within the body paragraphs is slightly mechanical, as it relies heavily on a sequential listing of countries. To improve, try to vary the sentence structure and use more sophisticated transitions to connect the comparisons between countries, rather than just moving down the list provided in the chart.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'generated', 'utilization', and 'consumption' correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'very far less' are not idiomatic; 'significantly lower' would be more appropriate. Additionally, there are minor issues with word choice, such as 'rank wise' which is not standard English. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise comparative language would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'United states of America' (missing 'the'), 'at bottom' (missing 'the'), and 'made 1,057 unit' (missing pluralization). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing articles throughout the text. To achieve a higher band, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles, and aim to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures with fewer errors.
