Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all requirements of the task. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the dominance of China and the USA, and made relevant comparisons, including the notable exception of Germany's consumption levels. The data is presented accurately, and the overview provides a clear summary of the trends. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are clearly linked to their units (e.g., specifying kWh for all figures) and avoid minor inaccuracies in data reporting, such as the slight confusion regarding the ranking of the remaining countries. Overall, the response is well-focused and addresses the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs. You use an introductory overview followed by body paragraphs that group the data effectively. Cohesive devices such as 'Looking at the top five countries', 'However', and 'The remaining countries' help guide the reader through the information. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the list of countries in the third paragraph feels slightly mechanical. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring consistent referencing would further enhance the flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Terms like 'generation', 'consumption', 'produced', and 'accounted for' are used appropriately in the context of the task. There are some spelling errors, such as 'contries', 'recored', 'amout', '2ed', and 'Franch', which slightly detract from the professional tone. Additionally, some word choices could be more precise. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating a slightly wider range of synonyms and ensuring accurate spelling would elevate the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'Germany is the only country which consumed more electricity than it produced' (tense consistency) and 'all countries generated more than it consumed' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some issues with comma usage and spacing. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the response. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent verb tenses when describing historical data.
