Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar graph depicts the information about the top 10 nations for the production and consumption of electricity in 2014.
To begin with, the highest amount of electricity generated by China and followed by United States which was 4,099 billion kwh and least amount of electricity produced by Korea which was 485.1 billion kwh. The difference of 121 billion kwh was noticed between Russia and Japan in the production of electricity. India generated nearly 200 billion kwh more electricity as compared to Canada.
Moving in to the remaining data, the maximum count of electricity was consumed by China and United States was second largest consumer of electricity. Whereas, the minimum amount of electricity used by Korea. The consuption of electricty in the France and Brazil was 462.9 and 455.8 kwh respectively.
Overall, huge amount of electricity was consumed and produced by China and followed by United States and the lowest amount of electricy generated and used by Korea in 2014.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying the top and bottom countries for both production and consumption. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention specific figures, the comparison between production and consumption is not fully explored; for instance, you could have highlighted which countries produced more than they consumed or vice versa. The data presentation is a bit list-like, and some figures are missing units (e.g., '462.9 and 455.8 kwh' should be 'billion kwh'). To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are clearly labeled and that the overview synthesizes the information rather than just listing the extremes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for production and consumption, and an overview. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moving in to', and 'Overall'. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. The referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate for the task, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more sophisticated to better link the comparative data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the data clearly. You use terms like 'generated', 'consumed', and 'nations' correctly. However, there are some inaccuracies, such as 'maximum count of electricity' (which should be 'highest volume' or 'greatest amount') and 'consuption' (spelling error). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'production' and 'consumption' and ensure precise collocations when discussing statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'highest amount of electricity generated by China and followed by United States' (missing 'was' and 'the'), and 'in the France and Brazil' (incorrect article usage). Additionally, the phrase 'Moving in to the remaining data' is slightly unnatural. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. Increasing the variety of complex structures while focusing on subject-verb agreement would help improve this score.
