Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is only 102 words long and ends abruptly mid-sentence. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed, and the information is incomplete. While the student identifies the top country (China) and the lowest (Korea Republic), the lack of a complete overview and the failure to cover the full range of data significantly impacts the score. To improve, ensure you complete the summary by comparing all relevant data points and providing a full analysis of the trends presented in the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into a brief introduction and two short paragraphs. However, the abrupt ending makes it difficult to assess the overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used in a very basic way, such as 'while' and 'on the other hand', but the lack of completion prevents a logical flow. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect your observations smoothly. The current structure is too fragmented to achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'consumped' instead of 'consumed' and 'counteries' instead of 'countries'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey basic information but lacks the precision and variety expected for a higher band. To improve, focus on using more varied verbs and nouns related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'surpassed', or 'figures'. Additionally, pay closer attention to spelling and word forms to ensure your writing is professional and accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Korea Republic is the lowest country which produced electricity and consumped it') and tense inconsistencies. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent. The sentence 'United states was second on the table which produce 4,099 billion kWh electricity' contains errors in article usage and verb tense. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring consistent verb tenses when describing data from a past year like 2014.
