Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the development of the task. While you have identified the main features and provided some comparisons, the under-length nature of the response means that the analysis is incomplete. Specifically, you have not included data for all ten countries mentioned in the prompt, leaving out several key figures. To improve, ensure you cover all data points provided in the chart and provide a more comprehensive summary that fully addresses the prompt's requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction and an overview. Paragraphing is used, though the body paragraphs are somewhat underdeveloped due to the length issue. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'Overall' and 'while', but the flow is occasionally interrupted by the lack of detail. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'produced', 'consumed', 'generating', and 'occupied'. However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'china' and 'united states' (which should be capitalized) and 'nd' instead of 'and'. These errors are minor but detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 response. Focus on proofreading your work to ensure proper capitalization and spelling of key terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical issues, including inconsistent capitalization of proper nouns and punctuation errors, such as the missing period after 'respectively' and the comma splice in the third paragraph. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall accuracy. Aim to use more varied sentence structures and pay closer attention to basic punctuation and capitalization rules.
