Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by identifying the top ten countries and their production/consumption figures. However, the overview is missing; a successful response must highlight the main trends, such as China and the USA significantly outperforming other nations, or the fact that most countries produce more than they consume. The report is largely a list of data points rather than a summary. While the key figures are included, the lack of a clear overview and the mechanical listing of statistics prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you group data logically and provide a clear summary of the overall trends observed in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on 'The first top country', 'The second top country', and 'On sixth number'. These phrases are somewhat unnatural and do not facilitate smooth transitions between sentences. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the grouping of four countries is confusingly phrased. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that comparisons between countries are clearly articulated rather than just listed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is significant repetition of basic terms like 'production', 'consumption', 'country', and 'billion kWh'. The phrasing 'The fifth number was occupied by India' is slightly unnatural. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'that s production' (possessive error) and 'was produce' (tense error). To achieve a higher band, try to use synonyms and more sophisticated reporting verbs or nouns, such as 'generated', 'utilized', 'surpassed', or 'figures for'. Expanding your range of vocabulary will help make your writing more engaging and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and tense usage, such as 'In the given bar chart shows' (incorrect sentence structure), 'that s production' (missing apostrophe), and 'The country France... was produce' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces before commas and inconsistent capitalization. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and proofreading for punctuation and tense consistency.
