Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, such as identifying China and the United States as the top producers and consumers. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention the top countries, the comparisons between the remaining countries are underdeveloped. For instance, you list countries by rank without fully highlighting the significant gaps or trends between production and consumption across the group. To reach a higher band, ensure you group data more effectively to show clear trends rather than just listing figures for each country. The overview is present but could be more analytical regarding the relationship between production and consumption.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To commence with' and 'Moving onwards to remaining details'. There are also issues with referencing; for example, 'it come in rank one' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic verbs like 'produced', 'consumed', and 'use'. Phrases like 'calibrated in numbers' are slightly unnatural in this context. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'quietly similar' (likely meaning 'quite similar') and 'make in use'. To improve, try to incorporate more varied reporting verbs and nouns related to data analysis, such as 'surpassed', 'accounted for', or 'figures'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'it come United States' (missing 'the' and correct verb form), 'it come in rank one', and 'make in use 698.8' (missing units). Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for verb tenses would be highly beneficial.
