IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The bar chart below shows the top ten countries for the production and consumption of electricity in 2014.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar chart demostrates ten countries with highest generation and utilisation of electric energy in billion kWh in the year 2014.

Overall it is evident that, the highest electricity was produced and consumed in China and the least among ten countries was Korea.

To begin with, the country which generates highest electric energy was China which was 5398 kWh and majority of the produced electricity is utilised which is 5322 kWh in whole year. The country after China was United States which produces around 4099 kWh and consumes 3866 kWh. Although, there are other countries such as Russia and Japan which are far from top 2 countries around 1057 kWh was produced and 1038 kWh was used in Russia and 936.2 kWh and 856.7 kWh was generated and used in Japan. Moreover, India stays at 5th position with 871 kWh and 698.8 was produced and utilised by the whole year 2014

Furthermore, the country such Canada has less production around 618.9 kWh and 499.9 kWh was cosumed by them. After that, France produces 561.2 kWh and utilise 462.9 kWh, also similar figure was observe in Brazil which was 530.7 kWh and 455.8 kWh produced and generated in that year. The country such as Germany and Korea was at the bottom with 526.6 kWh and 582.5 kWh generated and consumed by Germany and 485.1 kWh and 449.5 kWh was produced and utilised by Korea in year of 2014.
