Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response attempts to cover the main features of the bar chart by listing production and consumption data for the top ten countries in 2014. However, the data presentation is heavily flawed with numerous inaccurate figures and confused comparisons. For instance, the text states that Germany's consumption is 582.5 and notes Korea as having the lowest production, yet the overall structure lacks a clear, cohesive overview of the general trends. While the writer manages to select some data points such as China and the United States leading the charts, the mechanical listing of isolated numbers without meaningful synthesis or clear grouping prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, earning a band score of 4.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text is organized into four paragraphs, including an introduction and a brief overview attempt, but the logical progression is severely disrupted by confusing sentence structures and abrupt transitions. The overview paragraph ('Overall it is clear that, the two electricity is production and consumption') fails to summarize the main trends effectively. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the repetitive use of 'is the' and 'in production and in consumption' throughout the body paragraphs. Referencing is also unclear in places, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information smoothly. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal organization of ideas results in an overall lack of clear progression, leading to a band score of 4.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, heavily relying on fundamental terms like 'production', 'consumption', 'highest', and 'lowest'. There is an inadequate range of vocabulary to discuss statistical data effectively, and numerous word-choice and collocation errors are present, such as 'top most country' and 'fifth rank of electricity'. Spelling errors are also evident, including 'china', 'russia', 'india', and 'korea' lacking capitalization in places, as well as typos like 'inthe' and 'lowes'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic subject matter, the frequent errors and restricted range constrain the score to a band 4.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple and heavily flawed descriptive sentences. There are frequent, intrusive errors in basic grammar, punctuation, and article usage, such as 'The china is the highest', 'The United states 4,099 is the production', and 'Abd The France, Brazil, Germany is the lowest figures'. Complex structures are attempted very poorly, resulting in severe disruption of meaning and syntax. Because errors are extremely frequent across almost every sentence and impede clear communication, the grammatical control corresponds to a band score of 4.0.
