The bar chart below shows the top ten countries for the production and consumption of electricity in 2014.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar chart illustrates the top ten countries ranked by the production and utilization of electricity. Figures are measured in kilo-watt hour.

Overall, Top three countries produced and consumed electricity more than 1000kWh, whereas rest of the countries on the graph remained between below that figure. Besides this, Germany is the only country which consumed more electricity than its total production.

China leads the chart, by generating 5398kWh of energy and consuming maximum of it, 5322 kWh. USA stands at the second place by generating 4099kWh of electricity, wihle their usage is 3866 kWh. As compared to the top two countries, Russia stands at thrid place as it only produces 1,057 kWh and consumes 1038 kWh. Moreover Japan ranked fourth, followed by India at fifth place as their production is below 1000kWh.

Canada ranked at sixth place producing 618.9 kWh of electricity while they only consume 499 kWh out of it. Further France and Brazil produces approximately above 530 kWh and their usage is also almost same. Germany standing at second place on the table generates 526.6 kWh, in comparison to which their consumption is 582.5 kWh more than that of their production.

Korea generates the minimum 485 kWh of electricity and consumes 449.5 kWh.
