Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the task by summarizing the main features of the bar chart regarding electricity production and consumption in 2014. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, identifying extremes like China and the United States, as well as lower-tier countries. However, the response contains several inaccuracies in reporting specific data figures, such as stating China's consumption was 'around the percentage of 5,322' and confusing production and consumption figures for India. While key nations are mentioned, the lack of precision and some unsupported generalizations place this response at Band 5.0, where the task is addressed only partially and ideas can be limited or confused.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into four paragraphs, following a logical essay structure with an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, overall progression is hindered by awkward transitions and mechanical cohesive devices. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'which is moderatly more than United States production and consumtion of electricity' where the relative pronoun linkage is weak. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of information is sometimes disjointed. Because there is a lack of smooth progression and mechanical use of cohesive devices, this falls under Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary suitable for discussing statistical data, using terms like 'production', 'consumption', 'trend', and 'ranked'. However, there are frequent spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'consumtion', 'moderatly', 'Janpan', and 'respectievely'. Additionally, unnatural phrasing like 'was sits at the bottom level' occurs. These noticeable lexical errors and repetitive patterns cause some difficulty for the reader, aligning closely with Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. For example, 'Overall, it can be clearly seen from the chart that the China and the United States were at the highest for the electricity production and consumtion, while other two countries Germany and Korea republic were at the lowest compare to others...' contains grammatical errors such as missing articles, incorrect prepositions ('at the highest for'), and poor adjectival comparisons ('other two countries'). Frequent errors in basic grammar, punctuation, and subject-verb agreement are present throughout, supporting a Band 5.0 score.
