Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student covers the main features of the chart well, providing data for the top and bottom countries and noting general trends such as China and the US leading significantly, and Germany being the sole exception where consumption exceeded production. However, there are some inaccuracies in reporting the rankings and comparisons; for instance, the text states 'on second rank was USA' after discussing Russia (which is ranked 3rd), and claims the USA generated 4 times Russia's electricity, which is factually inaccurate based on the data (USA generated 4,099 while Russia generated 1,057, which is closer to 4 times, but the chronological ordering and referencing in that paragraph are somewhat confusing). Despite these minor data misinterpretations and organizational lapses in the final paragraph, the response successfully addresses all parts of the task with a clear overview.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is divided into four paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs, providing a coherent overall arrangement. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'Overall,' 'However,' and 'while.' However, the progression between ideas sometimes feels slightly disjointed or mechanical, particularly in the final paragraph where the mention of Russia and the USA is somewhat confused regarding their actual chart ranks ('On rank 3rd was Russia... after which on second rank was USA'). Paragraphing is generally appropriate, but referencing can occasionally become unclear.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, such as 'production,' 'consumption,' 'generated,' and 'position.' There are, however, frequent spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'cousumed' (consumed), 'cosumpting' (consuming), 'genrating' (generating), and 'cousumpting' (consuming). Furthermore, awkward phrasing like 'on rank 3rd' instead of 'ranked third' or 'in third place' detracts from precision. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the data, but these recurring mechanical and spelling errors prevent it from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as using 'while' clauses ('while china holding the top position' - which contains a missing auxiliary verb). There are several grammatical errors throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement and tense/form issues, such as 'chart illustrate' instead of 'illustrates', 'according their the production' (preposition and article errors), and capitalization errors like 'korea republic' and 'china'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to demonstrate limited control over complex structures.
