Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by discussing the bar chart on electricity production and consumption. However, the selection and reporting of main features are extremely weak. The overview is incomplete and confusingly phrased ("China, while United States followed a contrasting pattern"). Furthermore, the body paragraphs contain inaccurate data interpretation, confusion between production and consumption figures, and nonsensical statements (e.g., claiming Russia stood at 1.057 when the chart shows 1,057 billion kWh). The writer fails to make relevant comparisons or provide a clear, accurate summary of the top ten countries shown in the visual data. This falls well short of the requirements for higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response is divided into paragraphs, but the overall organization and logical progression are severely compromised. The introduction lists countries rather awkwardly, and the overview sentence is incomplete and lacks logical coherence. Within the body paragraphs, cohesive devices and referencing fail to connect ideas meaningfully; phrases like "Over the subsequent categories" and "changing from France, India, Canada..." are nonsensical and create confusion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow of information breaks down repeatedly, making the text difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and often inaccurate in context. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as "contrasting pattern" and "fluctuating pattern," but misapplies them to the data. There are also capitalization and punctuation errors with proper nouns (e.g., "United states," "brazil," "Korea Rep"). Furthermore, numerical data is transcribed incorrectly regarding decimal placement (e.g., "1.057" instead of 1,057). The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive, frequently impeding clear communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often incomplete, ungrammatical, or nonsensical (e.g., "China, while United States followed a contrasting pattern"). Frequent errors in sentence construction, missing verbs, and improper conjunctions cause considerable difficulty for the reader. Punctuation and capitalization errors are also present throughout the response. Control over basic grammatical forms is weak.
