Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the chart, correctly identifying China and the United States as the top producers and consumers of electricity, and referencing figures such as 5398 and 4099. However, the selection of data lacks a fully cohesive overview of the overall trends, and some comparisons are imprecise or confusingly stated, such as claiming that Brazil, Canada, and France have an equal rate of production when the chart clearly shows distinct descending figures. Furthermore, the phrasing regarding consumption and production relationships is occasionally contradictory or difficult to follow. The task is addressed, but the development of ideas and precision in reporting key data points are limited, placing it at a Band 5.0 level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response has severe structural issues. It is written as a single block of text with virtually no appropriate paragraphing, failing to separate the introduction, body details, and overview logically. Cohesive devices are weak, repetitive, and often misused (e.g., lowercase beginnings to sentences like 'on the other hand' and 'furthermore'). The referencing and progression of ideas feel disjointed, moving haphazardly between countries without a clear organizing principle. While some basic connectors are present, the overall arrangement lacks clear logical progression, corresponding to a Band 4.5 or rounded to Band 5.0 based on general flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms like 'produced', 'consumed', 'higher', and 'rate'. There are frequent inappropriate word choices and collocations, such as 'electricity production is fullfilled the need of demand' and 'utilization'. Spelling and word-form errors are noticeable throughout the text (e.g., 'china' instead of 'China', 'equall' instead of 'equal'). The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, resulting in noticeable lexical strain for the reader, which aligns with Band 5.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. There is a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent errors in basic punctuation, capitalization (e.g., 'china', 'us', 'korea', 'germany'), and subject-verb agreement or voice (e.g., 'japan is produced more electricity', 'brazil, canada and france has equall rate'). Run-on sentences and awkward phrasing are common, such as 'overall brazil, canada and france has equall rate of production but they differ in electricity consumption from each as canada consumed more by france'. These frequent errors frequently impede smooth reading, justifying a Band 5.0 score.
