Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the task by summarizing the main features of the bar chart, identifying China as the highest producer and consumer, and the Republic of Korea as the lowest in the ranking. However, there are notable issues with data accuracy and over-generalization. For instance, the claim that China 'almost consumed 5000 billion kilo-watts and same numbers were produced' is inaccurate (production was 5,398 and consumption 5,322), and the statement that Russia followed the US with a 'difference of 3000 billion kilo-watts' is completely incorrect (US was around 4,000 while Russia was around 1,000). Furthermore, the conclusion contains extraneous and unsubstantiated commentary regarding superpowers and exporters that is not supported by the data provided. Task Achievement falls into Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, including an introduction, body, and conclusion, which provides a basic overall arrangement. However, the logical progression is flawed, and cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate or misused. Expressions like 'In conclusion, chart summarizes the large data precisely offering better outlook without any lobg text' are awkward and reflect faulty mechanical cohesion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the links between ideas within and across paragraphs lack fluency. Coherence and Cohesion meets the criteria for Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with several spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text. Examples include 'ekectrcity' instead of electricity, 'utilize' used incorrectly for consumption, and 'lobg' instead of long. Less common lexical items are attempted, but they are often inaccurate or poorly collated, such as 'largest demographic on world'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the general topic, these frequent lexical errors restrict the score to Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical accuracy is quite low. There are frequent errors in article usage, prepositions, and sentence structure, such as 'The country that utilize along with generated most electricity was China and the least in the chart was Republic of Korea' and 'it is the indication that showcasr these both countries'. Typographical and morphological errors, such as 'showcasr', further detract from control. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, this merits a Band 5.
