Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by reporting the main features of the chart, specifically identifying China and the United States as the top countries for electricity production and consumption. However, the reporting becomes mechanical and heavily compressed for the remaining countries, listing them in a repetitive single paragraph without adequate detail or comparison. Data points are provided for China and the US (e.g., '5398 billion KWH and consuption was 5322'), but the details for lower-ranked countries are overly generalized and aggregated into a single broad range rather than being properly itemized. Furthermore, there are minor inaccuracies in unit references, omitting 'billion' in several places. Overall, the task is addressed only partially, fitting the band 5 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays some organizational structure with an introduction, body sections, and a concluding sentence, but it lacks clear overall progression. Paragraphing is extremely fragmented, with single-sentence paragraphs used excessively, particularly for the middle body sections (e.g., 'The United States was on second...' and 'Likewise the Russia was on third place...'). Cohesive devices are basic, repetitive, and occasionally inaccurate ('Likewise the Russia'). Reference words are also faulty, such as 'They were relevent there production rate', which creates confusion regarding what the pronouns refer to. The logical flow is disrupted by these mechanical transitions and choppy paragraph structures, reflecting the characteristics of a band 5 performance.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very limited and basic, with frequent spelling and word choice errors. Examples include misspelled words like 'shiows', 'countrys', 'eletricity', 'consuption', 'coutries', 'Canadawas', 'Germanywas', and 'relevent'. The student relies heavily on simple repetitive terms like 'production', 'consumption', and 'position'. There is virtually no use of less common vocabulary, and the persistent spelling errors occasionally cause strain for the reader. While the basic topic vocabulary is recognizable, the lexical range and accuracy remain at a band 4 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak, with a very limited range of sentence structures. Most sentences are simple, and attempts at more complex formulations result in frequent errors. There are numerous missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and awkward phrasing, such as 'The country with highest production and consumption of eletricity was used in China' and 'The United States was on second with production rate'. Punctuation errors are also prevalent, including stray periods within sentences ('...production of 1057 KWH. and with the usage of 1038KWH'). Errors frequently impede communication or cause severe awkwardness, aligning the grammar score with band 4.
