Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The student attempts to address the task by reporting on the top ten countries for electricity production and consumption in 2014. An overview is attempted at the beginning, noting that China was the top producer and consumer, South Korea was the lowest, and the United States produced more than it consumed. However, the response contains numerous inaccurate data transcriptions and confusions; for example, the student claims Japan's production and consumption were 'recorded for 1057 and 1038' (which are actually Russia's figures) and misattributes data for several other nations. Furthermore, the information is presented as a dense, undifferentiated list of figures without a clear analytical structure or well-integrated comparisons, leading to a partial and flawed coverage of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response is poorly organised, lacking proper paragraphing as it is divided into only two massive blocks of text. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, relying on repetitive transitions like 'respectively', 'furthermore', and crude chaining of clauses. There is no clear logical progression or roadmap for the reader; sentences run into one another without adequate punctuation or structural markers, causing significant disruption to the flow of ideas. Paragraphing is not used sufficiently or appropriately to separate distinct trends or groupings of countries.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary range is basic and repetitive, heavily reliant on simple terms like 'production', 'consumption', 'high', and 'low'. There are numerous spelling errors ('chaina', 'unoted', 'lwer', 'russi', 'consupton', 'reltively', 'german') and word-form errors ('greatest productive' instead of 'largest producers', 'produce electric' instead of 'produce electricity'). The student attempts less common vocabulary or technical terms related to the chart data, but frequent inaccuracies in word choice and spelling significantly impede readability and strain the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that are marred by fundamental structural errors and poor punctuation. There are constant errors in subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and prepositions, such as in 'china both consumption and prbuction were similar but china producation was more tha consumption' and 'the german consumption aws higher than production which accounted for 582.6 and 526.5 relatively'. Run-on sentences and sentence fragments are frequent, and punctuation is largely neglected, making it difficult to parse clause boundaries reliably.
