Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student covers all parts of the task well, selecting and reporting the main features of the bar chart. The overview correctly identifies China as the leading producer and consumer and Korea as the lowest, while noting general parity between production and consumption across countries. Key data points such as China's figures (5,398 and 5,322) and Korea's figures (485.1 and 449.5) are accurately cited. There is a slight minor error in grouping the rest of the countries, as their values span a broader range than stated ('from 1,050 to 582.5'), but the overall response is fully developed and satisfies the requirements of Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organised into four paragraphs: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on specific details. Information and ideas progress logically throughout. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In addition', 'Looking at the details', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' are used effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring a clear overall structure that aligns well with the descriptors for Band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'illustrates', 'production', 'consumption', and 'respectively'. There are some attempts at less common phrasing, though occasional word choice errors occur, such as writing 'United State stands on the second number' instead of 'second place', and 'utilize small amount' instead of 'consume lower amounts'. However, these lexical slips do not impede communication, placing the response solidly in Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses ('which is the highest figure in the chart') and concessive structures ('except Germany which produces...'). While there are some minor grammatical and punctuation errors—such as omitting the plural 's' in 'United State' and minor subject-verb agreement issues ('the electricity production and consumption... is')—these errors rarely impede communication and demonstrate a solid Band 6 level of grammatical control.
