Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response attempts to address the task by mentioning several countries and comparing electricity production and consumption. However, the student struggles to accurately report the main features and data from the chart. For instance, the overview lacks a clear summary of the overall rankings, and the description of specific figures is vague and confusing, stating that 'China production and consumption is approximately similar' and referring to 'two ranked countries China and America'. Furthermore, the data comparisons across the ten countries are largely inaccurate or omitted, with vague generalizations like 'another countries are dropped and equal'. The response fails to fully satisfy the requirements of Task 1, as key features such as the dominance of China and the US, and the specific relative volumes, are not clearly or correctly highlighted.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow and progression are heavily disrupted by severe errors in cohesion and referencing. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, as seen in awkward transitions like 'Therefore, it's proven that...' and 'On the other hand...'. Pronoun referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow which countries or data points are being discussed. While the text has an overall structure consisting of an introduction, body, and conclusion, the lack of clear logical sequencing and the repetitive, disjointed nature of the sentences significantly hinder readability and overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very limited and basic, frequently falling short of what is required for an Academic Task 1 response. The student relies on repetitive words like 'production', 'consumption', 'countries', and 'similar'. There are numerous lexical errors, incorrect word forms, and unidiomatic collocations, such as 'electricity productions and consumptions', 'slightly rose than', and 'their rank's are less than aboves'. Less common vocabulary is attempted but consistently misused, which restricts precision and occasionally impedes comprehension. The range of vocabulary is barely adequate to communicate the basic topic of the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of poorly constructed simple and complex sentences that contain frequent and severe errors. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'China production and consumption is' and 'America had little less'. Tense usage is confused and inaccurate, seen in phrases like 'rose and dropped' and 'is much dropped'. Punctuation is also problematic, and many sentences are grammatically incomplete or structurally incoherent, such as 'whereas is much dropped'. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher band score.
