The bar chart below shows the top ten countries for the production and consumption of electricity in 2014.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The chart illustrates the production and consumption of electricity of top ten countries in year 2014.

Overall, the highest electricity producer and consumer was China, while the lowest was Korea. Rep. Germany is the only country where consumption of electricity is more than production.

The top five electricity producers and consumers includes China, United States, Russia, Japan, and India. China produced approximately 5400 billion kWh electricity and consumed about 5322 billion kWh, whereas United States produced around 4100 billion kWh of electricity and consumed 3866 billion kWh which was slightly lower as compared to China. Russia and Japan produced about 1057 and 936 billion kWh, while consumed about 1038 and 857 billion kWh. India was quite low as compared to these four nations by representing its production of 871 and consumption of around 699 billion kWh.

The other five electricity producers includes Canada, France, Brazil, Germany, and Korea Republic. Canada produce approximately 619 billion kWh and consumed about 500, which is lowest consumption of a country from its own production as compared to all other nations. Germany consumed more than from its production. All other countries produced and consumed electricity less than 600 billion kWh.
