The bar chart below shows the top ten countries for the production and consumption of electricity in 2014.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The bar chart provided shows the production and consumption trends of electricity in ten major countries. The chart is arranged in the descending order of the electricity production of different countries.

Overall it can be noted that China and United States have a gigantic lead in consumption and production of electricity in comparison to any other country.

China with its 5,398 billion kWh of production and 5,322 billion kWh of consumption ranks the highest. United States also has a decent production and consumption margin which is at 4,099 billion kWh and 3,866 billion kWh respectively. Russia is at a distant third place but has the closest production and consumption margins.

Korean Republic is at the lowest position with 485.1 billion kWh production and 449.5 billion kWh of consumption. In second last position comes Germany which is the only country which has a higher consumption rate in comparison to its production. Brazil has lower consumption rate in comparison to Germany but still ranks higher due to its better production capability.
