Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the chart by reporting the highest and lowest figures, as well as providing details for the remaining countries. However, the overview is extremely weak and fails to effectively summarise the main trends or differences between production and consumption. Furthermore, the organisation of data feels like a disjointed list rather than a well-synthesised report, leading to an underdeveloped response overall. While accurate figures are cited for China and Korea, the lack of a proper overview and poor integration of data places this at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression and suffers from poor paragraphing and referencing. The introduction and overall statement are merged awkwardly, and sentences like 'Remaining data shows that' and '871 numbers taken by India' create a choppy, list-like structure. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, and paragraph boundaries are blurred, resulting in poor overall flow. This corresponds to the Band 5 descriptor for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple verbs and nouns such as 'contain', 'produce', 'consume', and 'numbers'. There are notable collocation and word-choice errors, such as 'maximum numbers of production' and '871 numbers taken by India'. While the terms 'production' and 'consumption' are correctly borrowed from the prompt, the lexical range is very limited and lacks precision, fitting Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying on simple clauses and awkward passive constructions ('produce by Russia', 'were taken by France'). There are frequent grammatical errors, incorrect prepositions, and awkward phrasing throughout, such as 'Overall, on whole chart the information about China dominate all other countries' and 'USA contains 4,099 in production or 3,866 in consumption.' These frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar at Band 5.0.
