The bar chart below shows the top ten countries for the production and consumption of electricity in 2014.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar chart compares the electricity production and consumption across top ten countries including China, United States, Russia, Japan, India, Canada, France, Brazil, Germany and Korea in 2014.

Overall, China contributes highest in the production and consumption of electricity in billion kWh, while Korea accounted for lowest. In contrast, the power production and consumption for Russia remained stable.

Looking at the chart in more detail, the figure for United States stood at second-highest production almost 4,099 billion kWh with slight decline in consumption around 3,866 billion kWh. All the countries have the highest production of electricity as compared to their consumption, but the opposite trend is followed by Germany that have the largest consumption approximately 582.5 billion kWh and the production constitutes only 526.6 billion kWh.

In contrast, India and Canada have saved considerable amount of electricity after suitable consumption in 2014 stood at 698.8 billion kWh and 499.9 billion kWh, while the production for both countries was almost 871 billion kWh and 618.9 billion kWh respectively. A notable feature is shown by Russia having almost constant production and consumption of power.
