Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the task by identifying the top ten countries and highlighting key extremes, such as China ranking first and Korea, Republic listing last. However, the treatment of the data is limited and under-developed in places. For instance, the discussion of the top five states mentions specific numbers for China and the United States, but dismisses Japan and India with a brief statement ("Similarly fourth was japan and fifth was india") without providing their data figures. Furthermore, the overview is somewhat simplistic and lacks a clear summary of overall trends, such as the general pattern where electricity production typically exceeds consumption across most of these nations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic organizational structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding section, displaying some overall coherence. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression between paragraphs, and the transitions feel disjointed. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as starting paragraphs with conversational phrases like "Talking about top five state" or "On the other hand". Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, and paragraphing is somewhat erratic, grouping distinct parts of the data together without a smooth logical flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on basic, repetitive terms and encounters noticeable issues with word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text (e.g., "generates and consumes of electricity", "korea republic", "russia", "germeny", "repbulic"). Less common vocabulary is attempted with frequent errors, such as mixing up verb and noun forms ("whose producing and consumption rate"). These lexical limitations and spelling errors cause some distraction and difficulty for the reader, preventing the response from reaching a higher level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences or awkward compound structures. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, as seen in problematic clauses like "china was ranked number one which has the highest capacity of producing electricity". There are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement, missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and persistent capitalization and punctuation issues (e.g., lower-case country names like "china", "japan", "india"). These frequent errors frequently strain the reader and indicate a weak control over basic grammatical rules.
