Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response makes a minimal attempt to address the prompt by selecting some data from the chart, such as listing the production and consumption figures for China, the United States, Russia, Japan, India, Canada, and France. However, the information is presented in a very basic and fragmented way without a clear overview of the main trends or significant comparisons. The writing stops abruptly before covering all ten countries, leaving key parts of the chart unreported. To move up, the response needs to present a clear overview and effectively select and report key features and comparisons across the entire dataset rather than listing data points mechanically.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently in this response. The text consists of one single, extremely long run-on sentence connected by repetitive conjunctions and transition phrases such as 'and the in rank table', 'on the other hand', and 'and in fourth'. There are no paragraphs used to structure the information logically, and the lack of proper punctuation makes the progression of ideas very difficult to follow. To improve, the student must divide the text into logical paragraphs, including an introduction with an overview and body paragraphs that group data meaningfully, while using a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily reliant on direct lifting or awkward phrasing from the prompt, such as 'production 5398 electricity' and 'consume less amountf electricity'. There are numerous word form and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'hane', 'produce' instead of 'production', 'eectricity', 'cananda', 'poduced', and 'amountf'. These lexical limitations and errors strain the reader and obscure the precise meaning of the data. To achieve a higher score, the student needs to build a broader range of vocabulary, use precise synonyms for data reporting, and ensure correct word forms and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is extremely limited, characterized by a complete absence of standard sentence boundaries and punctuation. The entire response is written as a single run-on sequence featuring frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency, such as 'they production', 'they will be produce', and 'they have more less electricity'. Complex structures are not used accurately, and basic sentence construction rules are frequently ignored. To progress, the writer must focus on forming independent, punctuated sentences, mastering basic verb tenses for data description, and reducing the frequency of structural errors.
