Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 80 words. Consequently, the task is addressed only minimally and remains incomplete. While the student attempts to provide an overview and mentions several countries and figures from the chart, the incomplete nature of the response means that key comparisons are missing and the summary is cut off mid-sentence. To improve, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is fully met and all major features of the visual data are systematically reported and compared.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text demonstrates some basic organization, beginning with an introductory sentence and attempting an overview and body details. However, there is no clear overall progression due to the abrupt ending. Paragraphing is not properly managed, and basic cohesive devices are either missing or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'followed by' and 'at'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the text trails off incoherently at the end with 'and the least'. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to structure the response into distinct paragraphs with logical sequencing and a wider range of appropriate cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but the range is limited and repetitive. The student successfully uses terms like 'consumption', 'generation', and 'produced', but makes several lexical and formatting errors, such as omitting units of measurement for the United States ('4099kWh') and using incorrect word forms like 'stands' written as 'stouds'. Spelling and word choices are generally understandable, but the lack of flexibility and precision restricts the score. To improve, the writer should incorporate a broader variety of precise vocabulary related to data trends and comparisons, while paying close attention to accurate units and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response relies on a very limited range of sentence structures, primarily simple statements listing data points. There are noticeable errors in grammar, punctuation, and capitalization, such as 'United states', 'india', and the fragmented sentence structure beginning with 'Whereas, the difference started to decreased'. Article usage is also inconsistent. While these errors do not completely obscure the meaning, the frequent slips and lack of complex sentence variety keep the grammatical score at this level. To improve, the writer should practice forming complex sentences with accurate verb tenses, proper capitalization, and correct prepositions.
