Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main features of the chart by presenting data for both electricity production and consumption across several countries. However, the treatment of the data is uneven, and some parts are under-developed or inaccurate. For example, the overview mentions China and Korea for production, but misses a broader comparative summary of consumption. Furthermore, some data points are misreported or confusingly attributed, such as stating that India and Japan had a consumption of 936.2 billion kWh (which actually corresponds to Japan's production figure). While the student attempts to select and report main features and make comparisons, the lack of complete accuracy and occasional confusion in handling the figures prevents the response from achieving a higher level of development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. The transitional phrases used, such as 'To start with' and 'Moving further', are basic. Furthermore, referencing and logical progression occasionally falter, as seen in the abrupt grouping of countries and consumption figures in the final paragraph, where Canadian individuals' consumption is awkwardly introduced. Paragraphing is present and helps structure the response, but the internal flow of ideas lacks seamless connection throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, incorporating terms such as 'production', 'consumption', 'quantity', and 'trend'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'less produced by Korea' instead of 'the least produced', and 'average quantity of electricity was produced' in reference to Russia. Spelling and word-form errors also appear, including 'cnadian' and 'comsumed'. These lexical slips and restricted range mean the vocabulary remains at a basic level, occasionally causing minor confusion for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that surface throughout the text. Examples include missing articles ('produced by china', 'lowest in Korea, Rep'), incorrect prepositions ('electricity consumed by china'), and awkward phrasing like 'equally consumed at 3,866 billion kWh by United State individuals'. Punctuation and capitalization errors, such as uncapitalized country names ('china', 'cnadian'), also detract from the overall accuracy. While communication is not entirely blocked, these persistent errors limit the structural range and reliability of the grammar.
