Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview and covering the main features of the chart, such as China and the United States leading significantly in both production and consumption. However, some parts are addressed more fully than others. While the extremes are noted, the middle tier of countries is somewhat glossed over with a sweeping list rather than detailed comparisons, such as when you wrote "The other countries followed the order from Russia, Japan, India, Canada, France, Brazil, Germany and lastly Korea." To reach a higher band, you should ensure all key data points are appropriately highlighted and extended with precise comparative details rather than simply listing countries sequentially.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs that separate the leading nations from the exception noted with Germany. Paragraphing is used appropriately to structure the information. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, the transition "The listed countries generated far below electricity around 1000 and below" lacks smooth integration, and referencing in phrases like "as the it generated" creates awkwardness. To achieve a higher level, you should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing across sentences is consistently seamless and clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to successfully communicate the main trends and figures from the chart. You attempt some less common vocabulary items, such as "leading country" and "consumption," but there are instances of lexical inaccuracy and awkward phrasing, such as "ranked the top," "unit of billion kWh," and the typo "Similae." Furthermore, omitting the units of measurement in places (e.g., writing "5398 kWh" instead of billion kWh) detracts from precision. To improve this criterion, focus on refining word choice, avoiding repetition, ensuring correct collocations, and paying closer attention to spelling and precise numerical units.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and comparative structures adequately throughout the text. There are, however, some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ("ranked the top" instead of ranked at the top), unnecessary comma splices or missing prepositions, and awkward phrasing like "as the it generated." Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To move up to a higher band, you need to produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences while maintaining a wide variety of complex grammatical structures with precise control over articles and prepositions.
