Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the bar chart data, but it falls short of the minimum word length requirement of 150 words by being 8 words under. Furthermore, the content is incomplete because the response cuts off abruptly at the end with an unfinished sentence ("Which was"). While the candidate attempts to report some main features, such as China and the United States having the highest figures and Korea the lowest, the selection is limited and fails to present a fully developed overview. Key figures are often stated without units or with minor inaccuracies, and the overall treatment of the visual data remains minimal.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response exhibits some organization with paragraph breaks, but there is a lack of clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph breaks off mid-sentence, severely disrupting the flow. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes inaccurate, such as repetitive use of phrase structures like "The figure of" at the beginning of multiple sentences. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the mechanical transitions between points prevent the essay from flowing logically from one idea to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student relies heavily on basic and repetitive vocabulary, such as constantly repeating words like "figure," "production," "consumption," and "proportion." There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as "countries which production" instead of "countries whose production," and missing units of measurement (e.g., omitting "billion kWh" in several instances). These lexical inadequacies cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or repetitive subject-verb patterns. Attempts at complex sentences are largely absent or faulty, as seen in the fragmented ending "Which was". Frequent errors occur in prepositions, article usage, and clause structures, such as "represented that equal proportion" and "was came to second place." These frequent grammatical errors and the incomplete syntax restrict the clarity of the writing and keep the control of grammar at a basic level.
