Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially by selecting and reporting some main features of the chart, such as the leading positions of China and the United States, as well as Germany's unique consumption pattern. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the general statement that Russia down to Korea has a 'very low' rate lumps all remaining countries together without adequately reporting individual significant data points or drawing meaningful comparative highlights across the entire dataset. To move higher, the report needs a more comprehensive selection of key features with fully extended comparisons across all prominent categories.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organization present, with an introductory sentence and subsequent body paragraphs attempting to group countries. However, the response lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is disjointed, and sentences within paragraphs often feel disconnected due to weak or inaccurate cohesive devices. For instance, the transition 'Although the gap between it's production and consumption is high' is structurally incomplete and abrupt, and lowercase beginnings at the start of sentences like 'the rate of production' hinder smooth flow. Improving logical progression and using cohesive markers more accurately would greatly enhance the overall structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic data points, such as 'production', 'consumption', and 'ranking'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward phrasings, including 'tremendous amount of both production of', 'second largest producer ranking', and spelling errors like 'Germnay'. Furthermore, repetitive use of phrases like 'production and consumption' restricts the range. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate a wider variety of precise reporting verbs and nouns while avoiding word-choice errors that occasionally distract the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response exhibits a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside faulty attempts at complex ones. Frequent grammatical errors occur throughout the text, including comma splices in the introduction ('...of ten countries in 2014, it\'s an order...'), incorrect pronoun usage and apostrophe errors ('it\'s production' instead of 'its production'), and missing capital letters at the start of sentences ('the rate of production'). These frequent errors and punctuation slips cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect inadequate control over sentence boundaries and grammatical patterns.
