Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, correctly identifying China and the United States as the top producers and consumers, and the Republic of Korea as the lowest. However, the data presentation lacks precision in places, such as saying consumption was 'slightly lower consumption then production' without properly contextualising the scale, and grouping the remaining countries vaguely ('the other six produced and consumed electricity as followed...'). While the overall task is addressed, some information is under-developed or missing key comparative details, placing the response solidly in the middle band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic logical arrangement with an introductory paragraph, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing the data. However, the progression is sometimes disjointed and mechanical. Transitions such as 'While ,' and 'as followed' are used incorrectly or awkwardly, and referencing between sentences can be unclear. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within the body paragraphs is faulty, meaning ideas do not flow smoothly from one point to the next, which is characteristic of this level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic concepts related to energy production and consumption. There are, however, noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'then' instead of 'than', 'canda' instead of 'Canada', and awkward phrasing like 'the other six produced and consumed electricity as followed'. Attempts at less common vocabulary are limited, and these recurring inaccuracies occasionally distract the reader, reflecting the constraints of this band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in article usage (e.g., 'the republic of Korea'), capitalization (e.g., 'china', 'united states'), and punctuation comma splices or misplaced commas (e.g., 'While , the republic...'). While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to cause some difficulty and prevent the writing from achieving a higher level of grammatical control.
