Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by reporting the main features of the chart, but the information is presented with some inaccuracies and lacks thorough development. While you identify China as the highest and Korea as the lowest, several comparisons are confused or incomplete. For instance, stating that Germany's production was 'twice the production in Russia' is inaccurate based on the data (526.6 compared to 1,057), and the figures for India (871 and 698.8 billion kWh) are listed without clear contextual framing. To reach a higher level, you should ensure all data points are accurately transcribed and that comparisons between countries are logically developed and clearly contrasted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text demonstrates a basic overall arrangement with an introductory overview and subsequent body details, but the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by mechanical transitions and poor referencing. Phrases like 'Looking from an overall perspective' and 'Turning towards the details' are used, but the internal linking within paragraphs feels disjointed. Additionally, paragraphing is somewhat blurred, as the body details are packed into dense blocks rather than separated logically by themes or data groupings. To improve, work on using cohesive devices more naturally and structuring your body paragraphs so that each focuses on a distinct, clearly linked set of comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying frequently on basic terms like 'production', 'consumption', 'electricity', and 'country'. There are also noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'manufacturing' for energy, 'least rank country', 'expenditure of electricity' when referring to consumption, and 'productivity' instead of 'production'. Spelling and word choice errors occasionally cause slight confusion for the reader. To achieve a stronger score, you should incorporate a wider variety of precise synonyms—such as 'generation', 'utilization', and 'output'—and ensure that terms are used in their correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex forms frequently result in structural errors. There are frequent grammatical errors involving verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'The bar chart compaired... has been potrayed', 'China is the top rank country', 'highest in among the other nations', and missing articles ('the China', 'the United States productivity'). Punctuation is also sometimes neglected, leading to run-on sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and reducing errors in articles and verb agreements so that your complex sentences are accurate.
