Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response responds to the task only minimally, listing countries and figures in a repetitive and mechanical way without providing a clear, overarching summary of the main features. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 142 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum (excluding text copied directly from the prompt). The overview attempts to group information, but the selection of data is incomplete and heavily restricted to the top three countries. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure the minimum word count is satisfied, provide a clearer summary of overall trends across all the provided data rather than just listing individual figures, and make more relevant comparisons between production and consumption for a wider range of countries shown in the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation in the text, beginning with a broad introductory sentence followed by details for individual countries, but there is no clear overall progression or logical structure guiding the reader through the data. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, and occasionally inaccurate, such as relying on repetitive ordering words like 'first', 'second', and 'third' at the start of sentences. Paragraphing is also poorly managed, with choppy sentences clumped together rather than developing distinct thematic points. Referencing is unclear at times, making the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive links, structure the response into logical paragraphs with clear topic sentences, and ensure smooth transitions between comparing and contrasting data points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on basic vocabulary and repeats key terms such as 'production', 'consumption', 'billion', and 'kWh' frequently throughout the text. There are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, including spelling mistakes like 'forth' instead of 'fourth', grammatical form errors such as 'there consumption' instead of 'their consumption', and awkward phrasing like 'On second number United State'. These lexical limitations and errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of synonyms and less common vocabulary related to data reporting, and ensure correct word forms and accurate spelling throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic lists. Attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to severe structural issues and frequent errors. There are numerous grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement and plurals, such as 'United State', 'These three countries has', and 'remaining countries are less then thousand', as well as missing prepositions and articles. Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences lacking proper punctuation. These frequent errors impede communication and distort meaning in several places. To improve, the writer must work on basic sentence construction, ensure accurate subject-verb agreement and plurals, and incorporate a controlled mix of error-free complex sentence forms.
