Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response only partially addresses the task requirements and falls short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 147 words. While the writer attempts to select and report main features from the chart, such as identifying China as the largest producer and consumer and Korea as the smallest, the coverage remains incomplete and mechanical. Several figures contain inaccuracies or typos, such as omitting units or misstating consumption figures (e.g., stating Germany's consumption was high when the chart shows it exceeded production, or writing '500kWh' for Canada instead of billion kWh). The overview is very basic and lacks a comprehensive summary of the broader trends shown in the data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization with an introductory sentence and paragraphing, but the text lacks clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inadequate, relying heavily on simple conjunctions and additive transitions like 'Additionally' without creating a smooth logical flow between ideas. Referencing and comparisons are sometimes confusing, and transitions between sentences can feel abrupt, making it difficult for the reader to follow a cohesive line of argument throughout the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student relies on basic, repetitive terms such as 'produced', 'consumption', and 'usage'. There are noticeable spelling errors and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'uppermost' instead of 'top', 'Chaina' instead of 'China', and 'du to' instead of 'due to'. These errors and the narrow lexical repertoire restrict the precision of the report, though meaning is still generally conveyed.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The text demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are issues with missing auxiliary verbs, incorrect verb forms ('genrated' and 'manufactured' used repetitively), and inconsistent handling of units and numbers within sentence clauses (e.g., 'consumption was 3866 billion kWh' missing a subject or prepositional link). Simple sentences predominate, and attempts at more complex structures often result in faulty grammar.
