Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by providing an overview of the main features and making relevant comparisons between the top ten countries for electricity production and consumption in 2014. The overview clearly highlights China and the US as the largest producers and consumers, and correctly identifies Germany as the sole exception where consumption exceeded production. However, some parts are more fully developed than others, and there is a lack of precision in reporting some of the figures for the remaining nations, such as Russia and Japan, where data is either slightly muddled or omitted. To reach a higher band, the writer should ensure that all key data points are reported accurately and supported with clearer detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introductory overview to the specific details of the top countries and the remaining nations. Paragraphing is used appropriately to group related information. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or faulty due to missing punctuation, such as missing capitalization and periods between sentences (e.g., 'overall, china and the united states...'). Referencing is mostly clear, but the flow is occasionally disrupted by mechanical issues rather than sophisticated cohesive devices. To improve further, the writer should ensure more careful sentence boundary control and smoother transitions between paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to data reporting such as 'producating', 'consumption', and 'exception'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the overall quality, including repeated typos like 'producation' instead of 'production', 'resctievly' instead of 'respectively', and 'highr' instead of 'higher'. While these inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, they reflect a limited control over word forms and spelling at this level. Using a wider and more accurate range of lexical items with correct spelling would elevate the score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like subordinate clauses ('with germany being the only exception' and 'while consumption slightly exceeding'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly missing capitalization at the start of sentences and proper punctuation marks separating clauses. However, these errors rarely impede communication and the basic grammatical structures remain mostly clear. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to eliminate basic punctuation errors, ensure correct subject-verb agreement consistently, and demonstrate a wider variety of error-free complex sentence structures.
