Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the chart, providing a general overview and selecting some figures to report. However, there are notable inaccuracies and confusions in the data presented. For instance, China's electricity generation is misstated as approximately 3000 billion kWh instead of the actual 5,398 billion kWh. Additionally, the overview is overly simplistic, stating that all countries had high production compared to consumption, which overlooks the exception of Germany where consumption exceeded production. The ideas and figures are somewhat limited and under-developed, reflecting a partial and imprecise handling of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an organisational structure with basic paragraphing, separating the introduction, overview, and body details. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally disrupted by abrupt transitions and awkward phrasing, such as starting paragraphs with 'China was top country' or 'However, Korea came at last position'. Cohesive devices are used in a limited or somewhat mechanical way, and referencing is occasionally unclear, which prevents the writing from achieving a smoother and more natural progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic information about rankings and amounts. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'domited' for dominated, 'approximatly' for approximately, 'less tha' for less than, and 'geremany' for Germany. Additionally, expressions like 'up than' and 'at last position' show a limited control of collocation and natural phrasing. While these errors do not entirely impede communication, they restrict the lexical range and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response employs a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex forms that turn out faulty. There are recurrent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('at last position', 'at second position'), preposition errors ('compares to its consumption'), and awkward clause structures, such as 'which, was 527 billion kwh and its consumption was 583 billion kwh'. These frequent errors require the reader to occasionally slow down and decipher the meaning.
