Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, containing only 144 words, and 12 words copied from the prompt were not counted. The content is heavily descriptive and lifts numerous figures directly from the chart, resulting in a repetitive list of data points rather than a well-synthesized summary. The overview is weak, containing inaccuracies such as stating the year is 2024 instead of 2014, and important comparative features are largely missed. The writing addresses the task only partially, presenting data in a fragmented manner without selecting the most salient trends or making sufficient meaningful comparisons between production and consumption.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates some overall organization, but there is no clear logical progression. The text is divided into paragraphs, but the body paragraphs consist of endless, list-like strings of data without effective grouping or a clear overarching structure. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and mechanical, such as the constant use of 'and second is' or 'and the next is'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information across the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'production', 'consumption', 'countries', and numbers. There are several spelling and word choice errors, such as 'bar chat', 'Chaina', 'thired', and 'Feance', along with awkward phrasing like 'the consumption all most 1.038'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, the lack of a flexible or varied lexical resource restricts the precision and sophistication of the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and heavily flawed complex sentence attempts. There are frequent errors in basic sentence structure, verb forms, and prepositions, such as sentence fragments ('The bar chat shows that the top ten countries... in 2024 .') and missing verbs ('These countries such as...'). Punctuation errors, such as unnecessary spaces before commas and periods, are also frequent. These persistent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader.
