Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify the chart’s subject and name the countries, and your overview correctly notes that China leads while Korea is among the lowest. However, the response is substantially incomplete: at 102 words, it is 48 words below the required minimum, and the final sentence breaks off at “Sunsequently,” leaving the report unfinished. More importantly, the figures are inaccurate: China’s production and consumption are about 5,398 and 5,322 billion kWh, not 4.3 billion; the US figures are about 4,099 and 3,866. The claim that the other countries have almost similar rates is too broad, especially given the large differences between Russia and the lower-ranked countries. Include accurate comparisons and complete the summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and a final paragraph intended to give figures. The overview also signals comparisons with “Overall” and “However.” However, progression is limited because the final paragraph contains only partial data and ends abruptly, so the report does not develop its comparison. Some linking words are used mechanically or do not express the intended relationship: “Whereas” is separated from the preceding sentence, and “Although” introduces a clause without a main clause. “However” is also repeated. To improve, group the figures into clear comparisons—for example, the two leading countries and the remaining countries—and use linking expressions only where their logical relationship is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary such as “production,” “consumption,” “ranked,” and “billion kWh,” which makes the subject understandable. The range is nevertheless limited, with repeated phrases such as “production and consumption of electricity” and “ranked.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “top ranked in” would be more naturally expressed as “ranked first for,” while “almost the similar rates” is not idiomatic. “Sunsequently” is misspelled, and “korea” and “United states” are not consistently capitalised. Use a wider set of precise comparison terms, such as “exceeded,” “approximately,” and “by contrast,” and check spelling and country-name capitalisation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes simple statements and attempts more complex structures, including “Although, the other countries have had almost the similar rates…”. However, these attempts are often faulty, and the range of sentence patterns remains limited. “Whereas, Korea falls in the lowest rank” is not a complete sentence when used independently, and the “Although” clause also lacks a main clause. The tense in “have had” is unsuitable for describing figures from 2014; use the past simple or a present-tense reporting structure consistently. There are also punctuation and spacing problems, such as missing spaces after full stops and commas. Practise joining contrast clauses into complete sentences and proofread sentence boundaries.
