The bar chart below shows the top ten countries for the production and consumption of electricity in 2014.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The provided bar chart dileneates the producation and usage of electricity by ten countries according to their ranking in 2014. The production as well as consumption is calculated in billion kWh.
Overall, China stands at the top by being the number one country in making and using electricity the most while Korea, Rep. being the least in given respect.
In the production of electricity, China and United States did quite a work by achieving 5398 and 4099 billion kWh electricity in 2014. Also, Russia, Japan and India had only a difference of approximately 100 billion kWh in their values. Canada stood at 618 billion kWh. However, France, Brazil, Germany had almost similar manufacturing of electricity with only slight difference in their data.
In the utilization of electricity, similar decreasing pattern was observed in above mentioned countries with China leading the demand of power with numbers at a large difference of nearly 2000 billion kWh than United States. Moreover, likewise in making creteria Russia, Japan and India were at values having variation of nearly 200 billion kWh. Canada, France, Brazil, Germany, Korea, Rep. had almost equal looking kWh energy with minor dissimilarities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main extremes accurately: China leads both production and consumption, while Korea is among the lowest producers and consumers. You also select relevant comparisons, including the large gap between China and the United States and the similar production figures for France, Brazil and Germany. However, some details are imprecise or misleading. Russia, Japan and India’s production figures do not differ by only about 100 billion kWh overall, and the claim that their consumption values vary by nearly 200 billion is also inaccurate. The overview could report the broader pattern more clearly and note the notable exception that Germany consumes more electricity than it produces. Several lower-ranked figures are grouped as almost equal without enough qualification, so the data are not fully represented.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear four-paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for production and consumption. This makes the two measures easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “However,” and “Moreover” help signal relationships. The progression is generally coherent, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “likewise in making criteria” is difficult to interpret, and “above mentioned countries” does not specify which group is being referenced. The consumption paragraph also moves from the China–US comparison to several country groups without a clear organising principle. Grouping countries by similar values or by notable differences, and using more precise references, would make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “demand,” “leading,” and “difference,” so the main information remains understandable. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “delineates” is not the best verb for describing a chart, “did quite a work” is an unsuitable collocation, and “making criteria” does not express the intended comparison clearly. Spelling errors such as “dileneates,” “producation,” and “creteria” also reduce accuracy. Some expressions, including “almost equal looking kWh energy,” are wordy and imprecise. Prefer standard chart language and concise terms such as “generated,” “consumed,” and “figures were similar.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “with,” and “although”-like contrast through “however.” Most sentences communicate their main point, and errors rarely prevent understanding. Some grammatical patterns are nevertheless awkward or incomplete. In “Korea, Rep. being the least,” the overview needs a finite verb, such as “Korea was the lowest.” The phrase “China and United States” is missing an article, and “had only a difference” is not a well-formed comparison structure. In “with numbers at a large difference,” the relationship between the figures is also grammatically unclear. Work on complete clauses, articles, and accurate comparative constructions while retaining your attempts at varied sentence structures.
