Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The bar chart illustrate the consumption and production of electricity in the top ten countries in 2014.
Overall China had the highest trend in both consumption and production of electricity with a 5398billion kwh and 5322 billion kWh,while Korea Rep had the lowest trend with genetration of 485.1billion kWh and consumed 449.5billion kWh in 2014.
United States also follow the trend with about 4000billion kWh in production and consume about 3866billion kWh.Russia had generated 1057billion kWh and use electricity 1038billion kWh.Japan produced around 936billion kWh and consumed 856 billions kWh in 2014.India made about 871 bilion kWh electricity and expenditure of 698.8billions kWh,while Canada also used 499.9billion kWh but they produced 618.9billion kWh.On the other hand France had about 462.9billion kWh usage of electricity and manufactured 561.2billion kWh.Brazil was almost same as France with 530.7bilion kWh of electricity production and consumption rate is 455.8billion kWh in 2014.Germany had developed 526.6billion kWh but they use 582.5billion kWh of electricity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and give a useful overview by noting that China leads both measures and Korea has the lowest figures. Most reported values are accurate, and you include comparisons across all ten countries. However, the overview is limited to the highest and lowest countries; it does not highlight the broad gap between China and the other nations or the general pattern that production exceeds consumption in nearly every country. Germany is the exception, with consumption (582.5) above production (526.6), but this important contrast is only mentioned in the final sentence and not drawn out. To strengthen the response, select the main patterns for the overview and make the exceptional German result explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows a broadly sensible order: it begins with an introduction and overview, then reports figures country by country. Linking expressions such as “while” and “On the other hand” help connect some comparisons. However, the information is presented as one long paragraph, so the overview and detailed comparisons are not clearly separated. The sequence also becomes a list of countries rather than a progression organised around meaningful patterns, and “also follow the trend” does not clearly explain the relationship between the United States and China. Use separate overview and detail paragraphs, and group countries by scale or by whether production exceeds consumption. This would make the progression clearer and reduce the list-like effect.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the data, including “production,” “consumption,” “generated,” and “produced.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing electricity statistics. “Highest trend” and “lowest trend” do not mean the highest and lowest figures, while “expenditure” suggests money spent rather than electricity used. “Manufactured” and “developed” are also unsuitable substitutes for “produced” in this context. Spelling and form errors such as “genetration,” “bilion,” and “billions” are noticeable. Aim for a smaller set of precise, natural terms—such as “output,” “electricity use,” and “consumed”—and check spelling and unit formatting carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some complex sentences, for example the comparisons joined with “while” and “but,” but control is inconsistent and many sentences contain errors. The opening has subject–verb disagreement: “The bar chart illustrate” should be “illustrates.” Tense and verb forms also shift, as in “United States also follow” and “they use,” alongside past-tense reporting. There are problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, and several long sentences join multiple country comparisons without clear punctuation. These errors sometimes make the relationships between figures harder to follow. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build shorter, controlled comparison sentences before adding more complex clauses.
