Student answer (Band 5.5)
The bar graph represents the number of electricity manufactured and used in the top ten nations, in 2014.
Overall, it can be noticed, the production ratio of the electricity was the highest compared to the consumption of electricity in all countries but, only in the Germany, consumption rates was the high and production number was the lower.
To begin with, in the China, the manufactured and used number almost similar, which were 5398 kwh production and 5322 kwh consumption. Furthermore, in the Canada, France, Brazil, Germany and Korea, Rep. also almost equal of elecricity used and manufactured . The number of production were 485 to 618 kwh whereas, the rate of consumption were 449 to 482 kwh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and give an overview that captures the main pattern: production is generally higher than consumption, while Germany is the exception. You also include relevant figures for China and the United States. However, some comparisons are too broad or inaccurate. For example, Russia, Japan and India are described as having “almost similar” figures, although India’s production-consumption gap is notably larger than Russia’s. The final range for consumption is also incorrect: Germany’s figure is 582.5, not within the stated 449–482 range. To strengthen the response, select the most important contrasts and report them accurately, including Germany’s higher consumption and the much larger output of China and the US compared with the other countries.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs grouping countries for comparison. Linking expressions such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” help signal progression, and the reader can follow the broad sequence from the largest producers to the remaining countries. However, the grouping in the final paragraph is not fully effective because Germany differs from the other countries, yet it is included with them as having almost equal production and consumption. Some transitions, including “Moreover” and “meanwhile,” connect figures without making the comparison especially clear. Organise the details around meaningful patterns—such as the two leading countries, the middle group, and Germany’s exception—and use references that make each comparison explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “manufactured,” and “ratio,” and the topic remains understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are unnatural or imprecise for describing a chart. “Electricity manufactured” and “used number” are awkward, while “production ratio” does not accurately describe the figures. There are also spelling errors, including “namber” and “elecricity,” and repeated reliance on “number” and “rate” makes the account less precise. Use standard chart language consistently, such as “electricity generated,” “consumed,” “output,” and “figure.” Check spelling carefully and choose terms that describe quantities rather than ratios when reporting absolute values.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of sentence forms, including a contrast in the overview and longer sentences with linking words. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur frequently enough to make some comparisons difficult to read. For example, “the production ratio … was the highest compared to the consumption” has an unclear comparison, and “consumption rates was the high” has incorrect agreement and structure. Phrases such as “in the China” and “the number … almost similar” also show problems with articles and missing verbs. Practise building accurate comparison sentences, for example: “In China, production was 5,398 billion kWh, slightly higher than consumption at 5,322 billion kWh.”
