Student answer (Band 6.0)
The column chart illustrates the major countries for manufacture and demand of electrical output during the year 2014.
Overall, it can be seen in the bar graph china and united states werw the both contries production and consumption of electricity far to compare other eight cuntries.Additionally, germany outcom and demand is very lowest and opposite to another contries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response identifies the main pattern accurately: China and the United States are far ahead of the other countries, and Germany is the exception where consumption exceeds production. It also supports these points with relevant figures, including the US totals and Germany’s 582.5 versus 526.6 billion kWh. The overview is present, and the remaining countries are grouped sensibly. However, there are factual inaccuracies: China’s production is given as 5,322, which is its consumption figure, and the overview calls Germany’s output and demand “very lowest,” although Germany is not lowest in consumption. The claim that the other countries have only a “small surplus” also over-generalises, particularly for India. More precise reporting of the leading figures and comparisons would strengthen an otherwise clear response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear four-paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to the leading countries and then the remaining group. This gives the reader a logical route through the information, and transitions such as “Overall,” “Additionally,” and “Notably” help signal relationships. The grouping of Russia, Japan and India, followed by the lower-ranked countries, is also useful. However, some connections are awkward or unclear, especially the overview sentence about Germany and the phrase “followed closely by Japan and India,” which does not specify whether this refers to production or consumption. Punctuation spacing and run-on presentation also interrupt the flow. Clearer linking and more explicit comparisons would make the progression smoother and more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
There is some useful task-specific vocabulary, including “dominated,” “ranked first,” “consumption,” “surplus,” and “outpaced demand.” These choices show an attempt to vary language rather than repeat only “production” and “consumption.” However, inaccurate word choice and spelling are frequent enough to make parts of the report difficult to read. Examples include “manufacture” for electricity production, “electicity illustration,” “outcom,” “produsing,” and “nillion.” “Germany outcom and demand is very lowest” is also an unclear and unnatural phrase. Use standard terms consistently, such as “electricity generation” and “consumption,” and check spelling and collocations carefully. Greater precision would help the reader understand the comparisons without having to infer the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts a range of sentence forms, including an overview, a comparison using “while,” and a longer sentence beginning “Notably.” Some sentences communicate the intended comparison, such as the US production and consumption figures. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships unclear. For example, “China and united states werw the both contries production and consumption…” lacks a workable sentence structure, while “Germany outcom and demand is very lowest” has problems with agreement and sentence construction. Articles, capitalization, punctuation, and clause boundaries also need attention. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses such as “whereas” or “while.” This would preserve the range attempted while making the information easier to follow.
