Student answer (Band 5.5)

This bar chart illustrates the Electricity production and also the electricity usage of top 10 countries specifically in 2014.

The overview of this whole chart demonstrates high production and consumption of two main high rank countries China and united states, and least rank country is Korea, Rep. Also, if we see Russia and Japan are also high ranked but not more than China and USA. Moreover, all the remaining countries have little bit difference.

Firstly, the highest electricity production in china is 5,398 and 5,322 consuming rate this is slightly high from USA which is 4,099 and 3,866 in 2014.afterthat the Russia is also the highest rank country of electricity development and utilization 1,057 manufacturing rate and slightly low usage rate 1,038.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main pattern that China and the United States lead both production and consumption, and you include several accurate figures for these countries, Russia, Japan and India. However, the overview is incomplete and some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate. For example, Korea has the lowest production, but Germany—not Korea—has the lowest consumption among the listed countries, while Germany’s consumption (582.5) is also higher than its production (526.6). The statement that the consumption rates of Canada, France and Brazil are “almost same” overlooks meaningful differences, and the comparison involving Germany is difficult to follow. Select the key contrasts more carefully and state them explicitly, including the general pattern that production exceeds consumption in most countries.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview and two body sections, with sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “secondly.” This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within the body paragraphs is uneven: the second paragraph moves from Japan and India to four other countries without clearly separating or comparing the data. Several linking phrases, including “Moreover” and “Also,” add little to the relationships between ideas, while the long final sentence makes the comparisons hard to follow. Use one paragraph for the leading countries and another for the remaining countries, and group figures in clear, parallel comparisons. More precise referencing would also help readers understand which production and consumption figures belong to each country.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “highest,” and “difference,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a chart. “Electricity development and utilization,” “manufacturing rate,” “spending rate,” and “intake” do not clearly express electricity production or consumption in this context. There are also spelling and form errors, such as “leat,” “afterthat,” and inconsistent capitalisation of country names. These issues sometimes make the intended comparison difficult to interpret. Prefer a small set of precise terms—“generated,” “consumed,” “output,” and “figure”—and use them consistently rather than substituting loosely related words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the opening sentence communicates the chart’s subject. However, control is inconsistent, particularly when several comparisons are combined. For example, “the highest electricity production in china is 5,398 and 5,322 consuming rate” lacks a clear grammatical relationship between the figures, and “the generation and intake of electricity in Japan and India they have no significant difference” has faulty sentence structure. Errors also occur in articles, agreement, punctuation and sentence boundaries, as in “in 2014.afterthat” and “the Russia is.” These frequent problems can make the data relationships difficult to follow. Build shorter, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check punctuation and agreement before combining clauses.
