Student answer (Band 5.5)

The given bar graph represent the position of usage and production of electricity(billon KWH) between ten countries which includes China, United states, Russia, Japan, India, Canada, France, Brazil, Germany and korea in year 2014.

Overall, China ,United states and Russia showed the largest consumption and production in utilising electricity which was more than doubled compared to other countries. In contrary, Korea recored the lowest rank in using or producing electricity. Other countries had rank averagly.

To begin with, China and United states had almost the same amount of electricity production which is around 5400billion KWh in which they uses more than half from it.However, other countries such as Russia, Japan and India came in the 3rd, 4th and 5th position which also produced about 1000 Billion KWH and cosnsumed approximately 800 billion KWH.

Canada and France same in the 6th and 7th rank which produced about roughly 600 billion kwh and used more than half of it. Similarly, the pattern is same in other cou

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main leaders and the lowest-ranked country, and your overview correctly notes that China, the United States and Russia produce and consume more electricity than most of the other countries. However, some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: China and the United States did not have almost the same production (about 5,398 versus 4,099 billion kWh), and the phrase “they uses more than half from it” does not clearly report the consumption figures. The grouping of Russia, Japan and India is also too broad to show their different values. The response ends before describing the remaining countries, and it misses Germany’s notable exception, where consumption exceeds production. More precise comparisons and a complete account of the key features would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs beginning with “To begin with” and “Canada and France.” These help the reader see that you are moving through groups of countries. However, progression is not sustained: the final sentence, “Similarly, the pattern is same in other cou…,” is incomplete, leaving the comparison unfinished. Some links between ideas are also unclear, particularly “in which they uses more than half from it,” and “In contrary” does not connect the overview smoothly. Organise the figures into clear comparison groups and use linking phrases to show similarities or contrasts accurately. Ensure each paragraph develops a complete point before moving on.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “rank,” and “approximately,” so the topic is generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “position of usage and production” is an awkward way to introduce the chart, while “countries had rank averagly” is unclear. There are also noticeable spelling errors such as “billon,” “recored,” and “cosnsumed,” alongside inconsistent capitalisation of country names and units. Aim for precise chart language such as “generated,” “consumed,” “ranked,” and “stood at,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including the overview and the comparison beginning “To begin with,” but control is inconsistent. Subject–verb agreement errors appear in “The given bar graph represent” and “they uses,” while article and sentence-structure problems affect phrases such as “in year 2014” and “which is around 5400billion.” Punctuation and spacing are also unreliable, with missing spaces after commas and full stops, and the final sentence is incomplete. These errors sometimes make relationships between figures hard to understand. Practise accurate sentence patterns such as “The chart compares…” and “China produced…, while its consumption was…”. Use a full stop to separate ideas when a longer sentence becomes difficult to control.
