Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The rendered bar graph depicts the information about the top ten nations for the generated and consumed of electricity during the given time period.
Overall, the highest electricity produced and used in China, whereas the lowest electricity generated and consumed in Korea.
In detail, 5,398 billion kWh electricity produced in China and 5,322 billion kWh used in same country. In the United States, 4,099 and 3,866 billion kWh electricity generated and utilized. In Russia, Japan and India manufactured below 1000 billion kWh electricity and consumed above 900 billion kWh.
In case of Canada, 618 billion kWh electricity made in 2014 and used near 499 billion kWh. The figure of electricity created and spent in France and Brazil was about 550 billion kWh and 500 billion kWh, respectively. In Korea, 485 billion kWh electricity produced and 449 billion kWh used. Interestingly, the same figure of electricity created and utilized in Germany was near about 540 billion kWh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main pattern that China leads both production and consumption, while Korea is at the bottom, and you include several relevant figures for the largest producers. However, some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. Russia, Japan and India did not all consume above 900 billion kWh: India’s consumption was about 699 billion. The statement that Germany’s production and consumption were “the same figure” is also incorrect; Germany consumed more than it produced (582.5 versus 526.6 billion kWh). The overview would be stronger if it highlighted the large gap between the top two countries and noted that Germany was the exception to the general pattern of production exceeding consumption. Some lower-ranked data are also only broadly reported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a brief overview and detail paragraphs that move through groups of countries. Phrases such as “Overall,” “In detail” and “In case of Canada” help signal progression, and the country-by-country approach is easy to follow. However, the grouping is not always logical: Russia, Japan and India are combined despite their different consumption figures, and Germany is added at the end without clearly explaining its unusual pattern. Some linking phrases sound mechanical, and “the same figure” makes the Germany comparison difficult to interpret. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, the two leading countries, the middle group, and Germany as an exception—and use references that make each comparison explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “generated,” “consumed,” “manufactured,” “utilized,” “created” and “spent,” and the electricity figures are generally understandable. There are also attempts to avoid repeating the same verb. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural in this context: “the generated and consumed of electricity” uses the wrong form, while “electricity made” and “electricity spent” are not natural collocations. “Rendered bar graph” is also an awkward description. Repeating many near-synonyms does not always improve precision; use standard reporting terms such as “produced,” “consumed,” “stood at” and “exceeded.” More accurate collocations and clearer descriptions of the data would make the vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including an overview sentence and longer comparisons, and the intended meaning is usually recoverable. However, some grammatical errors remain, particularly missing articles and auxiliary verbs. For example, “the highest electricity produced and used in China” needs a complete clause such as “the most electricity was produced and consumed in China”; similarly, “5,398 billion kWh electricity produced” is missing a passive verb and an article or suitable structure. “In the United States, 4,099 and 3,866 billion kWh electricity generated and utilized” is also an incomplete sentence. The phrase “the same figure … was near about” creates an unclear construction. Practise accurate passive forms and complete clauses, while retaining the useful variety of sentence patterns you attempt.
