Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and give a clear broad overview: China ranks first for both measures, while Korea is last in production. Several key figures and rankings are also reported accurately, including China, the United States, Russia, Japan and India. However, the overview is incomplete and the coverage of the lower-ranked countries is selective: Canada is omitted, and Brazil and Germany are named without their figures. More importantly, Germany is not described accurately enough to show the chart’s notable exception: its consumption (582.5) exceeds its production (526.6), unlike the other countries. Include this comparison and summarise the large gap between the top two countries and the rest to make the main features more fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs. The figures are generally presented in a sensible order, moving from the highest-ranked countries to lower-ranked ones, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “Moreover” help signal additions. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or awkward: “In which” begins an incomplete sentence, and “And korea” is an unsuitable sentence opening in the overview. The final paragraph also groups Brazil and Germany without explaining their figures or the unusual consumption pattern. Use complete sentences and organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, the top two, then the remaining countries—to improve progression and make references easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough task-related vocabulary to communicate the chart’s basic content, including “production,” “consumed,” “position” and “respectively.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, such as “holds the first place,” “was on the second place” and “producing and consuming of electricity.” Some word forms and spelling errors are noticeable, including “anf” and “nineth,” while “rank countries” is not a natural collocation. Aim for concise, accurate chart language such as “ranked first,” “generated” and “electricity consumption.” Also use “billion kWh” consistently for both measures; the China and US consumption figures are written as “5322kWh” and “3866kWh,” which omits the stated scale.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the main meaning is usually understandable. However, control is uneven, with recurring errors in sentence formation, agreement, articles and punctuation. “In which China holds the first place…” is a fragment, while “And korea, Rep was on the last of the list” is not well integrated into the overview. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “Japan and India holds” and “Brazil and Germany holds”; use “hold.” There are also awkward grammatical patterns in “the year of 2014” and “consuming of energy.” Punctuation is sometimes missing, as in “energy.Furthermore.” Practise complete overview sentences and check agreement and sentence boundaries, while varying structures more accurately.
