Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar chart illustrates the generation and consumption of electricity by top ten countries in 2014.
Overall, the China and the United States shares the greatest numbers of power generation and consumption throughout the period, while Korea,Rep has lowest figures electricity producation and usage. In contrast, other countries also present notable figures during the period.
The China has produce 5,398 billion kWh and nearly similar consumption with 5,322 billion Kwh, as compares to the United States generation was 4,099 billion Kwh, while expenditure has 3,866 billion Kwh figures. Whereas, Russia has bighest below as compared to the United States , 1,057 billion Kwh production and 1,038 billion Kwh usage. Followed by , Japan and India had (936.2 , 871) billion kWh power generation and (856.7 , 698.8) billion kWh energy consumption, respectively.
On the other hand, Canada has present 618.9 billion kWh in generation proportion and 499.9 billion kWh of usage, while Farance and Brazil were in narrowing gap with (561.2 , 530.7) billion kWh of production and (462.9 ,455.8) billion kWh consumption, respectively. Whereas , Germany followed different pattern , 526.6 billion kWh of generation was less then of usage with 582.6 billion kWh. In contrast, Korea, Rep accounted for the lowest power generation and usage , 485.1 and 449.5 billion kWh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover the chart’s main subject and provide a clear overview: China and the United States lead both measures, while Korea has the lowest figures. Most reported values are accurate, and the comparison of Germany’s production and consumption identifies the chart’s notable exception. This gives the response a solid account of the key features. However, the overview’s claim that other countries show “notable figures” is vague, and the middle-ranked countries are mostly listed rather than compared for significance. Also, Germany’s consumption is given as 582.6 rather than 582.5. To strengthen the response, make the overview more specific—for example, note the sharp drop after the United States—and select a few comparisons that explain the overall pattern rather than reporting many figures in sequence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs grouping the countries. The sequence from the largest producers to the lower-ranked countries is generally easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “On the other hand” and “In contrast” help signal relationships. This coherent arrangement is a strength. At times, however, connectors are used mechanically or do not express the relationship clearly: “Whereas” begins a sentence fragment-like transition, and “In contrast” before Korea does not introduce a meaningful contrast. Commas and spaces around these transitions are also inconsistent. Improve progression by grouping countries according to a clear comparison, and use fewer, more precise linking phrases so the reader can follow the comparisons without interruption.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “generation,” “consumption,” “production” and “usage,” and the meaning is generally recoverable. There is also some attempt to vary wording, rather than repeating one term throughout. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing this chart: “expenditure” does not mean electricity consumption, “shares the greatest numbers” is an awkward collocation, and “generation proportion” is unclear. Spelling and word-form errors such as “producation,” “Farance” and “bighest” further limit precision. Aim for a smaller set of accurate, natural terms—such as “electricity production,” “consumption” and “output”—and check spelling and collocations carefully. This would make the comparisons clearer and more appropriately academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including comparisons with “while” and “as compared to,” and the reader can usually understand the intended meaning. However, control is inconsistent, particularly with subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction. Examples include “China and the United States shares,” “The China has produce,” and “Germany followed different pattern.” Some clauses are awkwardly joined or punctuated, as in “Whereas, Russia has…” and “Whereas, Germany followed…”. These errors sometimes make relationships harder to process, even though the main information remains understandable. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and complete sentence structures, checking agreement and articles in each clause. More reliable control of these patterns would support your attempts at complex comparisons.
