Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report several figures accurately, including China, the United States, Russia, Japan and India. However, the response is incomplete: it stops after Canada and omits the remaining countries, including Germany, whose consumption exceeds its production. There is also no clear overview of the main pattern, such as China and the United States leading by a wide margin or production generally being slightly higher than consumption. The response contains 97 words, below the required 150; 17 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To improve, add a concise overview and compare the full range of countries, selecting key figures rather than listing only the first few.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The information follows the chart’s country ranking, so the reader can track the sequence from China through India. You also use contrast markers such as “whereas” to distinguish production from consumption. However, the response has no paragraphing or clear overview, and the repeated pattern “The next country is…” / “Whereas in…” makes the progression mechanical. The final sentence ends with Canada and does not complete the comparison, leaving the report without a conclusion. Organise the response into an introduction, an overview, and one or two detail paragraphs. Group countries with similar patterns and use linking phrases selectively so that comparisons, rather than a repetitive list, guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the basic subject and comparisons: “production,” “consumed,” and “whereas” are relevant to the chart, and the figures are generally presented clearly. However, the range is narrow and repetitive, especially in the repeated phrase “of electricity is produced” and the recurring “in this country.” Some country names are not capitalised, including “china,” “united states,” “russia,” “japan,” and “canada.” Use more precise chart language and vary the reporting verbs and comparison phrases. For example, describe a country’s “electricity output” or say that it “generated” a stated amount, and use “consumption” or “used” when reporting the second measure.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to connect information in longer sentences, particularly with “whereas,” and most of the figures remain understandable. However, sentence structures are limited and several punctuation choices make the writing awkward. In “The next country is united states, 4,099 of electricity is produced. whereas 3,866…” the full stop incorrectly separates the comparison, while the following “whereas” begins a fragment. The sentence about Russia also joins two clauses with only a comma. There are repeated problems with article use and sentence construction in phrases such as “In china, 5398 of electricity is produced.” Practise complete comparative sentences, for example, “China produced 5,398 billion kWh, compared with consumption of 5,322 billion kWh,” and check punctuation between clauses.
